My Little Girl, My Little Champion – A Fat Story
Well, I’ve lead her for the last 14 weeks along a path that many traditional health professionals and dietetics experts would describe as crazy. The path of LCHF!
A path that requires her to say no to treats at school when everyone else is munching on chocolates.
A path requiring her to plan her week out so she knows when she can have her free day.
To substitute sugar and carbs in her recipes and substitute with less popular products like almond meal and berries.
My 10 year old daughter, Eve, has shown great discipline and maturity, as well as an enormous amount of trust in her father to lose 10kg over the last 14 weeks as well as taking 15 cm off her waistline.
To see her on the netball court tonight in her semi final was like watching a different girl to the one that used to be hanging around the food table at parties and craving sweets and savouries at every spare moment.
Mindful of the issues that can arise at the suggestion of body image and looks, my wife and I have focused on the health benefits and the benefits for her sporting involvement and energy levels. And she has responded amazingly well.
As a result of her healthy appearance (her skin just glows now) many others are starting to notice. And when I tell them it’s from eating fat, well, they want to know more – and some have even taken up LCHF themselves.
My next challenge – live up to the faith she has put in me!
Great story Stevie and Evie!
Well thank you Kevin,
Great team work Lalors – I am looking for your picture in the netball skirt Steve.
Dan Brady
Thanks Dan
It’s coming!
good job, You’re right eve is glowing.
Hi Liz
Glowing like a roman candle – pass it on!
Stephen
Great Job Evie you look fantastic!
Well done to you both, that’s a fantastic achievement! I wish the AHA wasn’t funded by food companies, so they wouldn’t be afraid of telling the truth…
Thanks Eoin
Great to read about your achievements, I look forward to reading more.
Particularly interested in how you fuel yourself during your runs.
I have 4 children currently actively involved in junior competitive sport and one of the tasks that parents are rostered for is to provide fruit and sweets for 1/2 time – have we all been bluffed?
Steve
Well done Eve, looking gorgeous, and well done Dad. If a 10 year old can show such restraint, then so can I! Just the kick in the pants I needed. Thank you
Thanks for your kind reply

Glad to see a healthier, happier child, and I agree with your diet choice for her, and wish my parents knew to do this for me 30 years ago, but I hope you are not (unintentionally) sending any wrong messages to your daughter about your love for is connected to her appearance. You never truly know how young minds read this kind of parental intervention, and speaking as a former fat child whose entire nuclear and extended families seemed to make it their job every to tell me how unhealthy and unattractive being fat made me, I can tell you, it affects self-esteem and results in the need for therapy later in life. I look back at old photographs of myself from childhood, teen years, and young adulthood wondering what all the fuss was about because I wasn’t (compared to today’s standards) that big. Anyway, your child is a beautiful and healthy girl in both the photos you show here, so please remind her of that (I sure you already do) no matter what she may weigh. LCHF is the way to go for physical health, and unconditional love is the way to go for mental and emotional health.
Thanks for sharing your story – I have certainly taken it on board
We have been very conscious of focusing on the health benefits of being in a physical state that allows her to actively participate in activities (i.e. life) in a much more vibrant and enjoyable way.
We encourage her to eat and allow a free day a week where she can choose other “non LCHF” foods if she wishes. So far she has done this in a controlled manner. She knows that by eating the right foods she not only looks healthier but feels healthier. She gets it!
It is a family thing that has had benefits for myself, my wife and 3 other children also so has just become part of the way we live now.Eve is not singled out. She has a very mature approach to it all and is excited by the prospect of wearing some clothes she likes in the Summer that may not have been suited to her previously.
We do love her.
Cheers

Way to go! I know there is a big stigma against using LCHF on children…as if it has a negative consequence. The issue is happening earlier and earlier for kids.
Thanks Josh
What choices do the children have? Everywhere they turn – poor quality processed food and sugar!
We’ve taken a stand to provide some protection for them in our house.
Then we need to start on the schools, sporting events, etc. etc. etc.
The stigma should be on those that allow “Big Food” companies to control their family’s health unchallenged!
Cheers
Steve
Great job Evie! My 11yr old daughter is going through the same thing. She is down 17 lbs so far and loving the way she feels. It is definitely hard at friend gatherings but she is adjusting. Keep up the great work!
Hi Melissa
Great to hear – I’ll endeavour to keep updates coming through so subscribe and you will receive automatically.

Great work Steve. I have an 8 year old daughter who looked very similar to the before photo of your daughter. Our whole family have just started the LCHF lifestyle 2 weeks ago and my daughter has lost 3kg already. I’m very excited to finally know how to eat in order to loose weight not only for me and my daughter but my whole family as well.
Thanks Craig
Great to hear about your daughter – I’m finding it a great bonding experience with my daughter as we discuss recipes and go for walks together and chew the fat (pun intended).
Be prepared for some ups and downs.
#No. 1 tip – only eat when you are hungry. Breaking the habit of eating meals because it is dinner time or lunch time can make a difference.
If you haven’t already, check out http://www.cerealkillersmovie.com and dietdoctor.com Great for inspiration

Steve,
I think this is the best gift you have given your daughter!
I noticed in the picture she stands differently!!!
Well done,
J
Thanks Janet
Yes, her posture is better.
Positives all round really! And the best thing, all done without feeling hungry!
Steve
Well done Eve !!!! What an awesome Dad you have too.
I have an obese 8 year old Grandson. His dietitian told his mother that he would lose weight if his breakfast of bacon and egg was substituted with Weet Bix. She was happy that ate a salad every single day but advised his mother to increase his fruit and bread intake. The dietitian said Milo was good and so was yoghurt (even sweetened yoghurt) because of the nutrition they contained. She said that he was having more protein than he needed, so needed to decrease his protein and fat and increase his grains and fruit. The poor kid desperately wanted to lose weight so tried his best to do everything his dietitian told him.
Now six months later he’s put on a great deal of weight.
Thanks Ellen
This a sad story, but not an unusual one.
I can advise from our personal experience what works and what doesn’t work, and from everything I’ve read (I am not a scientist by the way but I read from scientists). You must encourage them to ditch the dietician! Now!
Unfortunately many dieticians are caught up in the low -fat and grains dogma that is threatening the world’s health. The food pyramid is just plain wrong!
Please share Eve’s story withy them – she is still going strong down another .6kg on High Fat, moderate protein and low carb (less than 50g a day)
Not only is she losing weight but is happier and more enthusiastic than ever.
Important things to do:
Ditch the dietician! Now!
Watch http://www.cerealkillersmovie.com
New book with great reviews “The Big Fat Surprise” coming to Australia and NZ soon (I’m assuming you are in that region)
In your Google Browser look up LCHF (low carb high fat) and you will find plenty of resources
Show his mother Eve’s progress – she is not alone – read other comments on this page.
Good luck – if I can help let me know at fathergrowsless@gmail.com
Regards
Steve
Yes we ditched the dietitian and I’ve been reading heaps about LCHF. My daughter is not sure that LCHF is suitable for children so I’ll show her Eve’s great progress. My grandson is confused. His dietitian (who is supposedly an expert) told him one thing and his grandmother is now telling him another. I wish we could find a Paediatric LCHF dietician. I’ve searched the internet but can’t find any. Actually I said in a previous post that my grandson was 8. He’s actually 9.
I’ll buy the Cereal Killer Movie. Thanks so much for you advice and GO EVA !!!!!
We have 4 children who are basically all eating this way (they get 1 “free” day a week) and they are all thriving.
When we give them fruit or bread the cravings start and they pester us every minute for food – huge behaviour change.
Continue watching my blog (even subscribe for automatic updates) and i’ll endeavour to post any information that comes my way that may be helpful.
